Star Brewery Gallery springs to life

Gaze in Time
Art & Design Extended Diploma Students from East Sussex College, Lewes
Tuesday 18th until Sunday 23rd March
Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm | Sunday 1pm-4pm

If you haven’t yet visited the Star Brewery Gallery in Castle Ditch Lane (off Fisher Street) then now is the time as they have just announced their new programme of exhibitions! The small historic doorway doesn’t really suggest the creativity inside but once you enter you will find a rambling historic building with an impressive number of artists, potters, photographers, jewellers, to name just a few.

On its journey to become an artistic hub in Lewes, the old brewery building has undergone several transformations over the years. The art gallery was originally known as the Star Gallery, was renamed the Hop Gallery and then became the Star Brewery Art Gallery when it was revitalised under Neeta Pedersen, its current director.

Neeta, now the gallery’s owner, director and curator, took over in February 2020. Neeta says that since then she has worked tirelessly to enrich the town with a unique art space where both established and emerging artists showcase a vibrant and diverse range of exhibitions.

The Star Brewery Gallery is delighted to host an inspiring exhibition, entitled ‘Gaze in Time’, showcasing the exceptional creativity of Art & Design students from East Sussex College, Lewes. As part of the prestigious Royal Ballet & Opera Design Challenge, the Art & Design Extended students have created stunning work across Costume Design, Set Design, Marketing, and Hair, Wigs & in response a modern ballet classic. Running from Tuesday 18th March to Sunday 23rd March, this free event offers a unique opportunity to see the next generation of designers bring The Winter’s Tale to life.

Starting tomorrow – 18th March 2025 – 23rd March

East Sussex College has an outstanding track record, with students consistently winning national awards. This year’s exhibition promises bold, imaginative interpretations of The Royal Ballet’s modern response to Shakespeare’s timeless classic. With over 40 colleges competing nationally, this competition is a launch pad for young talent to gain real-world industry experience.
