New Exhibitions at Star Brewery Gallery

Starting with “The Debutant” – Starts 29th March – 6th April 2025

About Jo Nicholson

The title of this new exhibition at The Star Brewery Gallery is :- “The Debutant,” after a short story by the painter Leonora Carrington and also because this is because it is Jo Nicholson’s first one woman exhibition in her home town of Lewes.

This body of work has all been made on paper, using watercolours, as Jo Nicholson finds this medium fits with the flow of “drawing in paint”.

Jo says “my interest in Surrealism, in particular Automatic Drawing, began as an undergraduate at art college. Since graduating with a First in fine art in 2012, I have continued to paint in acrylics and with textiles. Now I have settled on the Sussex coast, in Eastbourne, I work from my own home studio. Regular meditation boosts my wellbeing, encourages new ideas to flow, has helped me to develop new themes and to avoid becoming too self-referential in my work”.
