Creative shops

Lewes has a large selection of brilliant independent shops in the town. We will help you discover a selection of those which are often hidden away down a twitten or a side street. We will be featuring businesses on a regular basis. If you’d like to be included or tell us about your business, please use the “Submit your post” form above.

The Needlemakers

A great selection of independent shops and a cafe/restaurant. Situated just minutes away from Lewes Station & High Street so easy to walk to with entrances in Market Lane or West Street. See post for details and to explore all the shops in the building.

Cliffe High Street

Cliffe High Street, is at the bottom of the Lewes High Street, crossing the bridge over the River Ouse. There is a good selection of creative shops including Cliffe Antiques (see post), Alistair Fleming design (a Sussex business who design and build exquisite bespoke kitchens and handmade interiors) and Nord, a Scandinavian shop with stylish homeware and clothing.

Cliffe High Street is next to Chapel Hill, a steep lane which leads up to the South Downs and the stunning views but we have to mention the shop right at the start of the steep climb – Bag of Books, a wonderful bookshop for children with a huge selection of fiction, non fiction and games. They have regular book signings, reading groups, educational games and gifts. This independent bookshop is housed in a lovely old building and is a must for children and parents.

Those who are looking for home ideas will love From Victoria offering a bohemian-inspired collection of unique products for home and life. Freight is a wonderful shop run by two women who say “our ideas are influenced by the places we have visited and those that have left a significant impression on us”. They strive to create items that can be made in the UK.
