Chillis for a chilly day
It was the Farmers Market in Lewes today which, for those of you who may not yet have discovered it, runs from 9 to 1 on the first and third Saturdays of the month, located at Friars Walk Car Park, Lewes, a minutes walk from the Cliff Precinct.
The Lewes Farmers market is run by Common Cause, a social enterprise, not-for-profit company who are affiliated with The Lewes Climate Hub and are also involved in a number of well-being projects in East Sussex. They do this primarily through food growing projects and by supporting the local food growing economy in Sussex. They have a great website and a blog which gives you a lot of info about the people creating the produce on offer.
First stop was Joe’s Chilli Sauce Co which had a lot of tasters for their artisan sauces, oils and chilli jams. All delicious and it’s so nice buying from the grower with a passion for all things chilli. What started as a general interest in gardening turned into a bit of a chilli growing obsession! Joe started growing chillies as a wind-down hobby over 20 years ago and after a career change Joe’s Chilli Sauce Co was launched in 2018.
Joe’s Chilli Sauce Co are small scale chilli farmers and grow almost all of the chillies which are needed to make the current range of 11 Artisan Sauces, Jams and Oils as well as the recently launched – and highly acclaimed – Hot Honey!
